Justin Nagelberg was born in New York City in 1985 and grew up in San Diego, California. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a bachelor’s degree in Film & Media Studies, focusing on Japanese cinema and photography, then relocated to Tokyo for the next several years, where he attained fluency in Japanese and studied design at the Ochanomizu Art Institute. Intermittently, he worked in the film industry and did freelance photography while living in Los Angeles. Following this, he relocated to Seoul to continue his education, completing a master’s degree in Product Design at Korea’s top renowned design school, Hongik University (The International Design School of Advanced Studies), taking one semester abroad to intern with architect Fabrizio Grasselli in Tokyo, and completing a thesis, "Time," with supervisor Simone Carena. After graduation he moved back to New York City to work with Matthew Waldman and his design studio, Nooka, where he took on the role of lead designer. Moving on from this experience, Justin formed Parallelogram.
Parallelogram is a design studio established in December 2014 by Justin Nagelberg. It is founded upon and embodies the principles of simplicity, geometry, and form exploration. The studio is dedicated to creating work with an exceptional standard of quality, innovating beyond convention, and discovering that little something extra which distinguishes a great product from a good one. The studio provides a creative outlet for Justin and other likeminded designers who embody the same philosophy with their work. The Parallelogram studio is always open to collaboration and consultation, so please inquire if you have any projects that you would like to explore with us.
